The environment affects us all at the local and global levels. The environmental problems occur many times in a way which surpasses the narrow borders of the state, they often result in tension between the peoples and they set as a prerequisite the cooperation of all parts in order to be resolved. The universal nature of these problems renders them problems of culture and democracy. Their management demands both radical changes in the policy choices of the states and behavioural changes. The environmental problems are political, economic and social problems.
The environment represents a new challenge which surpasses the traditional relations with other countries. Our country's extroversion and its overt policy towards other countries cannot ignore the environmental challenges posed to our societies. This page is a first reading of the environmental problems, which concern the global community. Climate change, biodiversity loss, environmental safety, the unequal consumption of the natural resources between the north and the south (sustainable development and globalization), protection of water ressources, desertification, are problems, which demand our attention.
