Thessaloniki, 19 September 2004PASOK —
"We do not see the current administration having a goal or a compass," noted the President of PASOK in his introductory remarks before receiving questions from members of the press corps. "It is an administration of limited responsibility and wherever we are able to spot policy signs, we see the traditional, outdated beliefs of the Right. Whenever the administration deals with an issue, we see the lack of co-ordination, ability and seriousness. We see an administration that cannot meet the demand it faces. All this has serious consequences to the everyday life of citizens."
"The issue of the economy is not one about numbers, far removed from everyday life," added Mr. Papandreou. "Trust in the economy does not only concern the European Union. It concerns every citizen, the cost of living, the ability to borrow, employment and unemployment. It concerns the ability to intervene, correct, adjust and come up with new ideas for development."
"We delivered stability and in six months the nation's trust has been jeopardised," said Mr. Papandreou, concluding his introductory remarks. "A trust that we all worked hard for, a trust that is not immaterial or of no consequence. A trust that was an asset in the global economic and political arena."
