Flash 96 fm, 3 September 2004
In an extensive interview, George Papandreou spoke on all matters in the political agenda in Greece, the future of PASOK and of course, the nation's post Olympic course.
Talking about PASOK and the challenges ahead for the party, Mr. Papandreou noted that "back in 1974, a favourite slogan said -socialism with a human face.- The notion of men and women at the epicentre of politics, remains extremely relevant today."
"It is very important in fact because with all that is happening around us, people need to know that we are close to them," added the President of PASOK. "After so many years of being in power, maybe a distance has developed. We will bridge this distance and people will soon have a powerful voice again within PASOK."
Speaking about the success of the Olympic Games, Mr. Papandreou noted that "PASOK has shown that we can set big goals and make them a reality. We have this self-confidence and we have brought this self-confidence to Greece."
"We brought the belief that we are not afraid to match up with anyone around and we do not need to be dependent," added Mr. Papandreou. "There is so much inherent dependencies associated with globalisation that as an economy and a society, we need to be competitive and take initiatives. Precisely what the current administration is afraid and unable to do."
