George Papandreou's Interview to NET (New Hellenic Television) Channel

NET TV, 30 May 2004

PASOK — Speaking about the reasons why renewal is of the utmost priority for PASOK, George Papandreou noted that "...for many years now there has been a feeling of detachment between the movement and the people. But there is something more," said the President of PASOK. "Greece has changed! And not only Greece, but society! Today, people have multiple dimensions. You are Greek and European, you travel around the world, you are in other words complex and this is something special and very humane."

"We cannot compartmentalise this new disposition. We have to respect each and every personality's right to participate in the decision making process, to decide on the big issues that effect them."

Reflecting on the past as well as on some recent positions taken on the issue of change and renewal within PASOK, Mr. Papandreou added that "...there was dialogue taking place within the movement. We rarely engaged in ideological and purely political dialogue. This is precisely why changes are being made in opening up the movement to public dialogue!"

The President of PASOK also had the opportunity to talk about all the important issues of the period, particularly the performance of the administration. "All they are saying is that you are the bad guys and we are the good guys," noted Mr. Papandreou. "Unfortunately, New Democracy has shown that they have no strategy whatsoever for the future."
